#PORTRAITMEETDC
01.20.2019
a DMV event for photographers & models
date: 01.20.19 location: National Mall // Washington D.C. organizer: @portraitmeetdc
models: @the_oddity // @elizabeth_ashley //
Despite the frigid temperatures the group of models and photographers pictured above met to collaborate and create content. Check out the hashtag #portraitmeetdc to see the work.
This is the first time Iβve been to a PortraitMeetDC event and I brought my Sony A9 along with my G-Master 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. I wasnβt sure which lens I wanted to shoot with (not that I have a huge collection) but I knew I wanted to stick with only one to avoid changing indefinitely and force myself work with only one set up. For any fellow gear-heads, or photogs whoβve worked with this lens, the f/2.8 at this focal length captures some sharp images with smooth, and impressive bokeh in the background. It can be a lot of fun to work with, and the openness of the National Mall area was the perfect setting.
I went into this event with really no expectations or style in mind that I wanted to shoot. A few key things to note:
- it was great meeting and working with models who knew what they were doing, or required zero direction, but were open to collaborating to create something beautiful
- meeting other photogs in person I only knew through instagram was fun
- the collaboration level is high, and the value of the event is a βyou get out, what you put inβ meaning you can show up and do nothing, or you can show up and do something amazing.
Here are three photos of models I took. Behind the scenes are a swarm of photographers capturing them as in these settings.
Below is a full gallery of the shots I took.
