Washington DC Photography Groups

Perhaps you’re new to The District, or are looking to meet up with other photographers, videographers, models, makeup artists, etc but don’t know where to start.

When I moved to DC in early 2018 I wanted to find other creatives in the photography and videography space to collaborate and learn. I was willing to invest time and money into my craft and, at the time, desired business, but I believed that there were other people interested in the field who just wanted to shoot as well. I also just wanted to get out and shoot as much as possible. I quickly found that there are a lot more options that what I was used to where I moved from. The second instagram meet up I went to had over 100 people there, and it was fairly easy to start shooting with someone else.

Perhaps you’re new to The District, or are looking to meet up with other photographers, videographers, models, makeup artists, etc but don’t know where to start. A few takeaways from my experience:

  1. You get what you put in. Bring value. Say ‘hello’ to someone. Be okay with “making mistakes” - just put yourself out there. Everyone is in the same boat, but not everyone there has the same experience or skillset, so you’re going to grow.

  2. Ask to share instagram accounts. Models want to be tagged in your photos, and they will share your photos with a tag as well.

Here’s a few groups that I’ve found, and have been able to go to from time to time. Hopefully this helps!

Leave a comment if you know of any others, or want to share an experience about your creative journey, or just want to say, “hey”!
